About Keeping Duns Blooming Marvellous
Keeping Duns Blooming Marvellous (KDBM) is a volunteer led group of dedicated local people of all ages and abilities who work together to design and maintain the vibrant flowerbeds, borders and planters around Duns town. We work under the umbrella guidance of A Heart for Duns (AHFD), a charitable organisation based at Duns Volunteer Hall.
The group was started over seven years ago by Candy Philip our Lead Volunteer, in response to the need to upgrade and tend to several neglected flowerbeds in Duns Town. Over the years our group has steadily grown and we now have a regular and ever increasing team of willing volunteers who meet every Monday (weather permitting) to weed, plant, prune, sweep and water. Afterwards we reward ourselves with a hot drink and a blether at Borders Baguettes. You may have spotted us in our red team tops and black fleeces. Sometimes we take trips to visit other Community Gardening groups, share ideas and find inspiration. We all have a range of skills and abilities, constantly learn from each other and share out the tasks between us. There is no need to have any gardening knowledge, just a love of the outdoors and a willingness to help with practical tasks.
If you want to get involved do consider volunteering to help keep Duns ‘blooming marvellous’ or contributing to support our work in any way. We are a very friendly group and would love to hear from you. Please contact us via www.kdbm/contact-us
What we do
Our aim is to enhance Duns town and provide an attractive, sociable and sustainable wildlife friendly environment for everyone to enjoy with pride. We design and maintain the upkeep of twelve beautiful flower and shrub beds across Duns and an additional range of features, planters, vegetable boxes and wildflower areas. We also work with the local community in Duns at our polytunnel.
We raise plants from seed, divide plants and hold locally grown plant sales to raise funds for our work. We also plant trees in the local park and on our school sites. Our beautiful flower beds could not grow and flourish without generous support from many local businesses, organisations and funders. Our supporters and funders are credited on the information boards and plaques that mark Duns Flowerbed Trail and our planters.
We hope our Flowerbed Trail will inspire an appreciation in the beauty of nature and the importance of pollinators and plant diversity. We wish to encourage potential gardeners of all ages, skill levels and abilities to develop their interest and confidence in plants and gardening.
